Fall 2025

The Shelter House area at Dr. Blanche Lavizzo is currently closed and SPR will extend the closure until December 27, 2025.

We hosted a community feedback session about the Dr. Blanche Lavizzo Park Shelter House on Thursday, November 20, from 6:00 to 7:45 PM at Garfield Community Center.

Our team is currently analyzing your input and will be submitting recommendations in December. Our recommendation will include ongoing challenges and potential solutions to safety concerns, accessibility barriers, and park misuse. We will look at how community is interested in activating the space through recreational and community activities and enhancing public safety. SPR is also analyzing potential permanent fencing and useful park infrastructure. We recognize this park has been impacted by activities incompatible with intended use. We are working to ensure that all parks are clean, safe and welcoming.
