Early 2026
Updated February 17, 2026
SPR would like to thank everyone who provided feedback related to their experiences and potential opportunities at Dr. Blanche Lavizzo Park.
On February 11, SPR presented recommended actions based on neighborhood feedback for activation, preferred uses, partnerships, and potential next steps. The presentation can be found here.
Looking ahead, next steps will occur in two phases:
1) Prior to the removal of the picnic shelter fencing:
- The park will undergo enhanced sitewide clean-up that includes power-washing of all surfaces, mulch refresh of landscaped areas, mowing, weeding, edging, and litter removal,
- Installation of catenary lighting,
- Completion of a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) study.
2) Summer 2026:
- Repair of bike and pedestrian trail surface near restroom building,
- Expanded concrete pad and retaining wall near picnic shelter for temporary skate features.
Project Description
This community-centered initiative invites residents, businesses, and organizations in the Central District to come together to enhance the safety, vitality, and inclusivity at this neighborhood park. This effort seeks to address challenges such as safety concerns, barriers to recreational use, and park maintenance by fostering collaboration and new opportunities for park users to enjoy these spaces.
