Early 2026

Thank you for participating in our many engagement events! We have completed design and are working on final approvals and getting ready find a construction contractor. We anticipate starting construction in summer 2026.

The contracts for grant funding delayed our original construction timeline by one year. We aim to minimize impacts during the school year.

Above is the final artwork that was selected and designed by community through the Park CommUNITY Fund and will installed as part of the project.

Project Description

Hutchinson Playground will undergo a complete park renovation. This project includes the following:

  • new play area renovation for ages two and up
  • resurfaced sport courts
  • basketball court reconstruction
  • playfield repair
  • enhanced natural areas
  • art entry gates (funded by Park CommUNITY Fund)
  • pathways, entrance, and other related improvements to meet accessibility standards and improve safety

Anticipated Site Impact: The park will be closed in 2026. Specific dates will be provided when we are closer to construction.

Community Participation

Thank you to everyone who attended and provided input on the park design! We have completed the public engagement phase of this project. Please view the online presentations below to learn more about the design.

An environmental impact statement is not required under RCW 43.21C.030(2)(c). This decision was made after a review of a completed environmental checklist and other information on file with SPR. This information is available to the public on request.

The Determination of Non-Significance (DNS) was issued on July 5, 2024, under 197-11-340(2). The lead agency, Seattle Parks and Recreation, will not act on this proposal for 14 days from the date of issuance (July 5, 2024).
