Winter 2025

Aquatic Center and Play Area Public Meetings

Thank you to everyone who participated in the November 13 and 15 public meetings! Between the two events, we had over 100 people participate. We have received over 180 responses to the online survey so far, providing input on the projects. The online survey and open house materials will remain live until December 13 to allow for folks attending the Pathway of Lights event to engage with the project.

The main focus of this round of public engagement is to update community members on the project and the new approach of building a new pool, and to gather input on the play area design. We anticipate having more opportunities for you to provide feedback on elements of the aquatic center and community center rebuild design in future meetings planned for 2026. If you haven't already, please take a minute to review the project information, complete the online survey, and share your vision for the project below.

Project Overview

This project focuses on modernizing the existing Green Lake Community Center, Evans Pool and play area. The project has two primary components:

Develop New Aquatics Center

A brand-new pool building will be located northeast of the existing community center. The new pool facility will greatly expand recreation opportunities by offering a lap pool, a second recreation pool, a community room, and an updated outdoor playground.

Rebuild Existing Community Center

We plan to rebuild the existing community center and historic Evans Pool building by completing major renovations. The creation of the new aquatics center will allow the current Evans Pool building to be repurposed for community center use. Planning and design for the existing community center buildings will begin in early 2026.

The project represents a historic investment of over $36 million in the well-loved Green Lake Community Center, creating a cohesive campus for community gatherings and recreation that will serve the community for decades to come.

Brendan says:

Top priority for the pool should be a gender neutral locker room. Using the family/ADA room ties that up for those that need it.

Chelsea says:

Indoor playground open 7 days a week for elementary aged kids. Space for my kids on rainy weekend days when playground isn’t a great option!

There's not a single 25-yard stretch of deep-only pool in Seattle (the closest being FWAC). That'd be awesome for water polo!

In 5 yrs apt dwellers in the area/city will be craving open green spaces, they will not be craving a large oversized aquatic center
