Winter 2025

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) has issued the Notice to Proceed (NTP) to Kessel & Associates for construction on a three-play-area renovation package, beginning Monday, July 28, 2025. This package includes play area improvements at Ward Springs Play Area, Bryant Neighborhood Park Play Area, and View Ridge Playfield Play Area, with phased construction planned to minimize community disruption.

Construction is underway at View Ridge and Ward Springs; these two sites will run concurrently and are expected to be completed by the end of 2025. To take advantage of favorable weather, the contractor is partially mobilized at Bryant. The Bryant play area remains open while the View Ridge play area is closed.

Project Description

This project includes the installation of synthetic field surfacing, lighting, ADA access and site improvements for the lower playfield. Seattle Parks and Recreation is investing in state-of-the-art synthetic turf systems that are safe, playable and durable. Additionally, we are investing in the highest quality energy-efficient field lighting, which minimizes spill light and glare off the field while providing performance recreational light. The project will improve accessibility to the field in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

In the summer of 2020, the City of Seattle turned its focus to essential functions to address the pandemic and economic crisis, which required a significant reprioritization of resources. Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) suspended some capital project work, including this project. In 2023, we started moving this project forward; however, because of budget constraints at SPR, the project was again put on hold. The Seattle Park District Cycle 2 provided funding and helped move this project forward.

This project is part of a package of three play areas that are being renovated. The scheduled construction duration includes renovations at all three locations.
