Summer 2026
Updated June 10, 2026
Thank you to those that visited us to learn about and share you input about the project at our community events in May. We heard from a of field users that were excited about the upcoming improvements and several that shared concerns about the environmental impacts of synthetic turf. If you weren't able to join, please take a look at our project description and schematic design plan below.
We are currently working on furthering the field designs and preparing to submit for permits.
Project Description
The West Queen Anne Playfield serves as a hub for sports activities, including baseball, softball, and soccer. The improvement project focuses on enhancing the athletic fields by extending their hours and season of use. This project includes two components:
- Improvements to the lower/eastern fields: In 2021, SPR improved the field lighting for fields 1 and 2. The next phase of the project will further upgrade these fields by converting them from grass to synthetic turf and improving the backstops and perimeter fencing.
- Improvements to the upper/western field: Through a partnership with Queen Anne Little League, SPR is designing broader improvements to Field 3, including a synthetic turf conversion, field lighting, and dugout improvements. Queen Anne Little League has funded the design of these improvements and is working to raise funds for construction through their Heart of the Hill Campaign.
Both projects will also include pathway and access improvements to meet current accessibility standards.
The athletic fields will be closed during construction. SPR will work with our design and athletic scheduling teams to limit the impact on field users.
